Travel ban lifted on politicians

Officials in Cote d’Ivoire have lifted a travel ban on political leaders that was imposed by former military ruler General Robert Guei, state-owned television reported on Thursday.

As tension escalated ahead of presidential elections on 22 October, Guei had warned opposition leaders against trying to leave the country, saying that if Cote d’Ivoire was going to erupt in violence then everyone was going to look at “the ashes” together.
Guei was swept from power in a popular uprising after he tried to rig the outcome of the vote in his favor.
