Japan has pledged US $1.36 million in emergency grants to Eritrea. According to a report by the official Japanese news agency Kyodo on 26 December, the grant will be given to help Eritreans affected by the two-year border war with Ethiopia. The money would be provided through UNHCR to help displaced and refugee populations which had been forced out of their homes since fighting broke out in May this year, the Japanese foreign ministry announced.
