World Water Forum kicks off in Istanbul

Over 23,000 participants from some 180 countries have gathered in the Turkish commercial capital of Istanbul to attend the world’s largest water-related event, the 5th World Water Forum, 16-22 March.

The Forum is being attended by a number of heads of states and governments, UN agencies, parliamentarians, local authorities, water experts, activists and others - in total more than 3,000 organisations.

Organised every three years, its main purpose is to get water issues onto the international political agenda, promote solutions to international water disputes, and formulate and disseminate concrete proposals.
