African heads of state have renewed their commitment to tackling HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria by trying to achieve universal access to care and treatment on the continent by 2010.
The promises were made on Thursday last week at the end of an African summit on the diseases in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo urged delegates not to sway from these new commitments.
"Universal access is not talking of 80 percent, not even 90 percent - it's 100 percent access to prevention and treatment services," Agence France Presse quoted him as saying.
