Busia women slow on VCT take-up

    JOHANNESBURG

    Expectant mothers are failing to make use of HIV voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) in eastern Uganda's Busia district, according to officials there.

    District Director of Health Services Dr Oundo Bwire expressed concern that efforts to tackle the spread of HIV from mother to child could be hampered as a result.

    In a recent interview on Open Gate FM, a local radio station, Bwire said last month only four percent of pregnant women had registered for treatment at antenatal clinics in the area.
