Businesses acknowledge future AIDS impact

An estimated 46 percent of business leaders say they expect HIV/AIDS to affect their operations within the next five years, a World Economic Forum (WEF), survey has shown.

WEF said this was a marked increase on the 37 percent of respondents who foresaw a similar AIDS impact in last year's study.

However, fewer than one in 10 companies had made any quantitative assessment, especially in areas with low HIV prevalence, where only a fifth of companies had policies on AIDS.

WEF noted that even where firms did have policies in place, they often failed to address key issues of discrimination against HIV-positive employees or access to treatment.
