Workplace AIDS strategy launched by UMA

The Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) has launched an HIV/AIDS education programme for employees of its member firms. UMA training officer Joseph Kyalimpa told the local New Vision newspaper: "Our role is to ensure that member firms acknowledge prevalence of the pandemic, as well as being tolerant to employees living with HIV/AIDS." Kyalimpa said the Global AIDS Fund had footed the bill of more than US $28,000 needed to kick-start the initiative. The Fund recently announced the suspension of five grants worth more than US $200 million to combat HIV/AIDS in Uganda after an audit by business services firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers found evidence of "serious mismanagement".
