Anti-AIDS programmes running out of funds

The Ugandan Health Minister, Jim Muhwezi, has urged his government to allocate more money to programmes tackling HIV/AIDS. Referring to the available funds as "a drop in the ocean", the minister warned that most anti-AIDS programmes were already feeling the impact of sparse funding. The local Monitor newspaper quoted Muhwezi as saying, "The priorities are numerous but, of course, the problem is a shortage of funds to carry out the existing programmes." AIDS education and advocacy campaigns, orphan care and antiretroviral access were highlighted as being in urgent need of financial support.
