Revived AIDS council to bring relief in KZN province

The government of South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province has announced plans to resuscitate the Provincial AIDS Council.

After being inactive for some time, the council could add impetus to the battle against HIV/AIDS in the area, which has an estimated HIV/AIDS prevalence rate of 33 percent - much higher than the national rate of 25 percent.

BuaNews, the government news agency, quoted provincial health MEC Peggy Nkonyeni, as saying, "It is good that the [KwaZulu-Natal] premier, Sbu Ndebele, has decided to commit himself and his administration to intensifying the fight against the pandemic."
