The Mozambican government can only cover a small part the country's HIV/AIDS budget for 2005, estimated at US $54 million, according to Health Minister Francisco Songane.
However, the minister was confident that the bulk of the funding would be provided by international donors, the local news agency, AIM, reported.
Addressing concerns over the sustainability of broadening access to anti-AIDS treatment, Songane said: "Every step we take must be firm. We must not expand too rapidly, lest the situation run out of control."
The government recently announced a target of placing 20,000 people on antiretroviral treatment during 2005.
