Dangerous lack of workplace AIDS policies highlighted

    JOHANNESBURG

    Experts at the recent UN Commission on HIV/AIDS and Governance in Africa (CHGA) have warned that AIDS could decimate sub-Saharan Africa's human resource capacity, unless countries initiate workplace anti-AIDS programmes.

    CHGA's AIDS research director, Nana Poku, told the UN news service PlusNews: "There is the mentality that the region is the least affected on the continent. This is dangerous - it could lead to complacency and manifest in phenomenal increases in infection rates."

    The International Labour Organisation predicts that by 2010 HIV/AIDS could cause the total labour force in 35 African countries to drop by nine percent.
