Tanzanian health officials have announced plans to screen tuberculosis (TB) patients for HIV/AIDS after research suggested that 44 percent of people with TB were also HIV-positive.
Tanzania is one of 22 countries with the highest incidence of TB worldwide, but the national coordinator for TB and leprosy control, Dr Saidi Egwaga, attributed the high rate of TB to HIV/AIDS.
Egwaga said screening would focus on congested areas such as prisons, and programmes caring for HIV-positive people, a local newspaper, The Guardian, reported.
