Loan suspension disrupts planned AIDS projects

    JOHANNESBURG
    Planned HIV/AIDS and disarmament programmes have been disrupted in Cote d'ivoire following the World Bank's suspension of more than US $150 million in loans. Abdoul-Bakary Sanogo, the Bank's spokesman, said this was a result of the West African nation having fallen two months behind in debt repayments. He said funding for planned HIV/AIDS, disarmament and economic reform programmes would not be forthcoming until the arrears were paid. "As soon as the money is repaid, we'll resume business as normal," the Associated Press quoted Sanogo as saying.
