No withdrawal of AIDS money - Global Fund

The Global AIDS Fund has denied media reports that it wants to withdraw funding for South Africa.

According to reports the Fund's executive director, Richard Feachem, had accused the government of being slow to disburse AIDS funding and said his organisation might look at distribution mechanisms other than the central government.

In a recent statement, the fund said it wanted to clarify the reports by noting it had no intention of withdrawing any money from South Africa.

To date, the Global Fund has approved US $234 million in proposals for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care in South Africa.
