AIDS can be beaten with hope - expert

    JOHANNESBURG

    The chairman of the Social Aspects of HIV and AIDS Research Alliance (SAHARA) for West Africa, Cheik Niang, says hope is the weapon Africa should use to overcome the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

    At an AIDS conference in Cape Town, South Africa, Niang and attending delegates agreed that although Africa was severely affected by the pandemic, it would never die from it.

    "It is possible that Africa will find the resources, whether they are human resources, intellectual or medical, to deal with HIV/AIDS and overcome it," the South African Broadcasting Corporation quoted Niang as saying.

    The SAHARA conference, which draws to a close on Wednesday, aims to meet the deadline set by the Millennium Development Goals of reversing the progression of HIV/AIDS on the continent by 2015.
