Researchers from around Africa met in Cape Town, South Africa, on Sunday at the start of the Human Sciences Research Council's Second African Conference of the Social Aspects of HIV/AIDS Research Alliance (SAHARA).
The four-day event also draws experts from Europe and the US, and aims to support policy-makers and programme planners in the sub-Saharan region in prioritising their spending on HIV/AIDS interventions that have scientifically been shown to work.
Conference chairman Dr Dan Kaseje said in a statement: "The outcome of the African conference should be of specific interest to researchers and policymakers who would like to promote some of SAHARA's goals, in line with the New Partnership for African Development's (NEPAD) ideals for the African continent."
A selection of the presentations will be available as peer-reviewed articles in the new scientific publication, SAHARA Journal.
