Plans for national HIV/AIDS survey announced

    JOHANNESBURG

    Uganda's Ministry of Health has announced that a national HIV/AIDS sero-behavioural survey was set to begin in April.

    The director general for health services, Francis Omaswa, said the survey is aimed at establishing an accurate prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the country.

    The survey is expected to overcome the problem of relying on estimates when planning for people living with HIV/AIDS.

    Omaswa was quoted by a local newspaper, New Vision, as saying: "In Africa, this is the first of its kind and the biggest ever. The time is right to de-stigmatise HIV/AIDS and educate every one to ensure the success of this fundamental survey."
