No AIDS drug programme in Nebbi district

An AIDS organisation has expressed concerned over the lack of access to antiretroviral drugs for people living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda's northwestern Nebbi district. Franklin Chonga, chairman of the Network of AIDS Service Organisations in Nebbi, told a local newspaper, New Vision, that people travelled over 75km to get drugs in neighbouring Arua district near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Chonga said apart from the lack of anti-AIDS medication, no information existed on HIV/AIDS infection rates for the district.
