A survey by the South African Business Coalition on HIV and AIDS (SABCOHA) revealed on Tuesday that most local companies were failing to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
According to the South African Press Association, SABCOHA surveyed 1,006 companies in the manufacturing, trade, building and construction sectors between October and November 2003.
The survey showed that only a quarter of the companies surveyed had implemented a formal HIV/AIDS policy, and even fewer had put a voluntary counselling and testing programme in place.
SABCOHA will cover the mining and financial services sectors in a survey to be conducted in 2004.
