New count of HIV-positive people underway

    JOHANNESBURG

    Plans are currently being drawn up to determine the actual number of people living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda.

    Minister of State for Health, Mike Mukula, said the government could no longer work with estimates when planning for people infected with the HI virus.

    Mukula was quoted by a local newspaper, New Vision, as saying: "Although awareness about this deadly disease hit 99 percent a few years ago, many families continue to live in a state of denial."

    The minister said the survey was expected to reflect the prevalence rate for the entire country.
