HIV/AIDS workplace project launched

    JOHANNESBURG

    A multimillion dollar project to help tackle HIV/AIDS in the workplace was recently launched in Ghana by the US Secretary of Labour, Elaine Chao.

    Secretary Chao said the Ghana HIV/AIDS Workplace Education Project was part of a $9.5 million grant by the US Department of Labour to develop a programme for HIV/AIDS prevention education and workplace policy.

    She told the Canadian publication, Biotech Week, that President George W Bush had demonstrated his commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS and other diseases by devoting an unprecedented amount of resources totalling $15 billion.

    Chao said: "Africa is one of the worst-hit areas of the pandemic and I am in Ghana to announce a tranche of this grant to launch the HIV/AIDS Workplace Education Project. Working together, I know we can help educate workers at the workplace to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS."
