Donors' conference to be held in Brussels next week

The fourth "Forum of Partners for Development in Burundi" will be held at the Palais d'Egmont in Brussels on 13 and 14 January, the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday. Attendees will include Burundian President Domitien Ndayizeye, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Louis Michel, and Belgian Minister for Cooperation and Development, Marc Verwilghen. The Belgian foreign ministry said this was the first time that Brussels would be hosting the forum, which brings together bilateral and multilateral donors, Burundian government officials and the UN. Meanwhile, the Burundian s agency, the Agence burundaise de presse, reported on Thursday that Ndayizeye was scheduled to leave his capital, Bujumbura, on Saturday, for a tour that would take him to Sudan, France and Belgium. In Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, Ndayizeye will hold talks with his counterpart, Umar al-Bashir. In Paris, Ndayizeye will meet with President Jacques Chirac and hold a conference with French businessmen.
