Visa period waived for conference delegates

Kenya has waived the visa application period requirement for all delegates attending the upcoming 13th International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted diseases in Africa (ICASA). Moody Awori, the country's minister for home affairs, said the earlier visa requirement would have barred some delegates from attending the 18 to 26 September conference, which is being held in the capital, Nairobi. The bi-annual meeting involves key stakeholders in the anti-AIDS war and provides African countries with a forum for exchanging and sharing experiences in HIV/AIDS care and treatment. Awori was quoted by the local East African Standard newspaper as saying: "If we had not done this, hundreds of delegates would have been time-barred to register for the conference."
