The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Thursday said Africa could benefit from a university curriculum that covered the societal implications of HIV/AIDS.
The proposal follows a recent four-day workshop in South Africa attended by 21 African Vice Chancellors and university heads.
Roland Msiska, the UNDP project director for South Africa, said it was time for university HIV/AIDS programmes to go beyond simply tackling the awareness issue.
"The pandemic demands that future policy makers leave university with a good knowledge of the overall impact of HIV/AIDS," Msiska told the UN news service PlusNews.
