Call for prison condoms rejected

    JOHANNESBURG
    The Swazi government has refused to supply condoms in prisons, the South African Press Association (SAPA) reported on Friday. Correctional services commissioner Mnguni Simelane said requests for the distribution of condoms to inmates could not be met as it promoted homosexual behaviour. However, Simelane said he was in favour of the recently launched HIV/AIDS training programmes for inmates and warders, which would eventually be extended to the country's 12 other prisons. Swaziland's adult HIV infection rate is estimated to be 38.6 percent.
