Less talk, more haste - NGO

    A Namibian AIDS NGO on Tuesday said while it welcomed all government treatment initiatives, more haste had to be exercised.

    Health Minister Dr Libertina Amathila recently told The Namibian newspaper that the provision of HIV/AIDS drugs had been "in the pipeline" for almost two years and would begin "within a few weeks".

    The Namibian Network of AIDS Service Organisations (NANASO) has, however, expressed concern over the government's lack of urgency.

    "While the announcement is commendable, the government must adopt a more speedy approach on the matter," NANASO acting national coordinator, Andrew Harris, told the UN news service, Plusnews.

    Harris said it was unacceptable that people were dying while the government deliberated over a two-year period.
