Tanzania has fuel stocks to last 35 days, the deputy minister for energy and minerals, Ibrahim Msabaha, said on Friday.
"The ministry assures fuel users and the public that the stock of petroleum products in the country is encouraging and there are no indications that we are about to face a fuel shortage in the near future," The Guardian newspaper quoted Msabaha as saying.
He was speaking in response to increased public anxiety over the possible adverse effects of the war in Iraq.
Msabaha told a news conference in Dar es Salaam, the country's commercial capital, that ships were already bound for Tanzania with enough fuel to boost stocks to last 80 days from 21 March.
Msabaha said the minister for energy and minerals met with owners of oil companies and businessmen on Friday, who assured him that the fuel situation in the country was normal so far.
