South Africa's Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) on Friday said it plans for at least 600 volunteers to be arrested during an protest against the government next week.
TAC said the government's failure to provide antiretroviral treatment for all people living with HIV/AIDS has forced the group to take action.
Earlier this year, TAC announced that the government had until the end of February to implement a national treatment plan before the group embarked on a civil disobedience campaign.
"For 600 people to be arrested will be symbolic of the number of South Africans who die of AIDS each day," TAC national manager, Nathan Geffen told the UN news service PlusNews.
TAC chairman Zackie Achmat is expected to outline the civil disobedience strategy on Sunday.
