Government must do more for HIV/AIDS - NGO

A Harare-based NGO on Wednesday said people living with HIV/AIDS (PWAs) were not getting the treatment they deserved. The Southern African AIDS Information Dissemination Service (SAfAIDS) said PWAs complained on 29 January that despite government efforts, there was still not enough access to care and treatment. "The government is not doing enough for PWAs who cannot afford the exorbitant prices of the HIV/AIDS medication available only in the private sector," SAfAIDS executive director, Dr. Sunanda Ray told the UN news service Plusnews. "These people have no one to turn to ... it is now up to government to develop a public health function that provides for all PWAs," Ray said.
