Increase in cholera cases

Cholera cases in Chad have increased by about 25 percent in six days, according to figures from the World Health Organisation (WHO). WHO reported on Wednesday that the number of cases for this year had reached 2,458 by 21 August, up from 1,960 on 15 August. It said 88 people had died from the disease. More than 6,000 cases of cholera have been reported this year in Benin, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Togo, according to WHO. Chad’s Health Ministry, with the help of WHO and Médecins sans Frontières, is continuing its surveillance and health education activities, the UN agency said.
