RSF condemns killings at journalist’s home

The media rights organization, Reporters sans frontiers has urged Ivorian Justice Minister Siene Oulai to order an “impartial and serious” investigation into last week’s attack on the home of Laurent Tape, editor of the private daily ‘Le National’.
Tape’s older sister and a journalist were killed in the Wednesday night attack by two men. Another relative is currently in the coma at a local hospital. At the time of the attack, Tape was in France covering President Gbagbo’s visit.

Some media organisations, including Tape’s newspaper, reported that the attack could have been politically motivated. Tape was an unsuccessful candidate during municipal elections held in March and is considered a supporter of overthrown president Henri Konan Bedie.
