German aid group staff released from prison

Nine local staff from the German aid organisation HELP have been released after being held in prison since last Friday after being accused of provoking public unrest, reports said on Wednesday. A member of HELP was quoted as saying that the nine had been released on Tuesday evening and would be examined by doctors, since at least one had been beaten by police. The nine had tried to prevent a HELP warehouse from being plundered by self-styled war veterans and had then been accused of trying to prevent a peaceful distribution of food. The nine now face trial on 18 May, reports said.
