Zambia willing to send peacekeeping troops to DRC

Zambian Defence Minister Chitalu Sampa said on Thursday his country was willing to send peacekeepers to the neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), at the request of the United Nations. He however added that the world body had not contacted Zambia over the issue so far, news reports said. Sampa said Zambia was committed to bringing peace in the region as shown through President Frederick Chiluba’s role in the Congo conflict. Zambia has refused to take sides in the three-year old war in the DRC and Chiluba is a mediator in the DRC peace process.
