President Joseph Kabila, visiting Sweden as part of a five-nation European visit to highlight the situation in the DRC, on Thursday invited foreign investors to help develop the country’s vast potential but said he did not expect substantial foreign business interest until after the war. “Congo is a country of very many resources and we need to develop those for the people,” Reuters news agency quoted him as saying. “Anybody who can be there to assist us, facilitate our people to do that, is welcome,” he added. Kabila said a restructuring of the economy was underway, with once-spiralling inflation being brought under control, but that the war was the biggest barrier to moving the country forward. He said his dream was that in five years, the DRC would be strong economically and politically, and have sufficient infrastructure to enable the spread of education and social services.
