NDF hails Angolan operations as a success

    JOHANNESBURG

    Namibian Defence Force (NDF) soldiers have been conducting "follow-up operations" against UNITA rebels in southern Angola since the beginning of this year, according to a senior NDF officer.

    Major Hidipo Haindongo told Namibia's Nampa news agency on Monday that equipment recovered from UNITA in the areas of Chimbara near Likuwa in southern Angola included mortars, AK47 automatic rifles, G3 rifles, R1 rifles, RPG launchers, anti-tank land mines, and anti-personnel land mines. The officer said the operations into Angola covered the period 30 January to 14 February, and 19 UNITA rebels were killed in the raids.
