Angolan forces accused of thefts, shootings

    JOHANNESBURG

    Namibia's National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) has accused members of the Angolan paramilitary Civil Defence Force Unit of selling livestock stolen in Angola to Namibian villagers. NSHR reported that early on Friday, members of a CDFU unit based at Eenghwiyu in Angola raided Onamutanda village, from where they stole a number of livestock and drove them to Eenhana in Namibia and sold them. It is believed that the CDFU members used the money from the sales to buy radios before returning to their base at Eenghwiyu.

    In another incident, NSHR alleged that Namibian Defence Force members of the Walvis Bay-based artillery battalion robbed Angolan villagers of between 45 and 50 cattle between 14-16 January, some 70 km inside Angola. The animals were allegedly distributed among villagers in Onaimbungu, in Namibia.
