Swaziland said on Thursday that the international community was ignoring its appeals for aid as more than 13,000 people in its rural areas faced starvation, news reports said. The agriculture ministry said in a statement that the Swazi government had made repeated calls for emergency food aid for people whose crops were damaged by devastating floods in early 2000. It said some 23,000 mt of maize was urgently needed, and that no pledges had been made since the government first made the appeal for help in mid-2000.
