Cholera outbreak claims seven lives

At least seven people have died in a cholera outbreak in Ghana’s Volta region, a BBC report on Tuesday quoted health officials as saying. The Director of Health Services in the Volta Region, Dr Frank Nyonator, confirmed that 53 people infected with the disease had been admitted at the Battor Hospital, including 23 women, 10 men and 20 children aged four months to 18 years, the BBC said. He said 12 had been discharged while the rest were still under observation. “Optimal case management at the hospital is difficult due to several factors, including understaffing,” Dr Nyonator was quoted as saying in the report.
