Mauritania's Union des forces democratiques-Ere nouvelle (UFD-EN) has filled an appeal in court against the government two-month old ban on the party, news organizations reported on Thursday. The party's secretary-general, Ahmed Ould Daddah, said on Thursday that UFD-EN did not recognise the decree dissolving it and described the party as being a "highly active opposition party". He also dismissed the government's accusation that the party is "extremist" and "confrontational". The government banned the party in late October after accusing it of "constant instigation to violence" and of "actions to undermine the country's interest".
