At least two people were killed last week in Abidjan during unrest on university campuses linked to a rift in the local students’ union, the Federation des etudiants de Cote d’Ivoire (FESCI). One student was thrown out of a window on campus on Wednesday and another died in similar circumstances on Friday, local newspapers reported. In recent months, violence has plagued the union, which is split along political lines.
