France provides about US $8.7 million for roads

France has provided Mali with 6.7 billion CFA francs (about US $8.7 million) to improve roads in the west of the country, PANA reported on Friday. The aid, which will come from the French Development Agency, will help improve the surface of a 146-km road between Kayes in the west and Yelimane in the northeast. It will also be used for work along a road between Lake Magui and Yelimane, and to improve water conservation during the rainy season for use in irrigation during the dry months. The latest aid follows an allocation of 8.8 billion CFA for building the Kayes-Yelimane road. The road was completed in July. It has improved transportation in the zone, which is where many of the Malian immigrants in France come from.
