Cote d’Ivoire’s ruling Conseil National de Salut Publique (CNSP) announced on Tuesday that all political rallies and meetings have been suspended. The ban will last until the official opening of the election campaign, set for two weeks before presidential polls scheduled for 22 October. The Interior Ministry said in a communique that the measure was linked to Monday’s attack on the residence of the Ivoirian leader, General Robert Guei.
Meanwhile, Guei has called a meeting of the diplomatic corps, political parties, top administration officials, trade union representatives, civil society and senior members of the security forces for Thursday at the presidential palace.
