Villagers acquire arms from Angola - newspaper

Security officers in Zambezi and Chavuma have expressed concern at the number of arms villagers in the northwestern parts of the country were buying from Angolans, ‘The Post’ said on Thursday.

The newspaper said that the officers who were patrolling the area to prevent further incursions from suspected Angolans - both government and UNITA soldiers - said most of the villagers in the area had been acquiring arms through exchange with cattle and other foodstuffs.

Chavuma member of parliament Jerry Muloji was quoted as saying that he would soon meet the police and other security officials in the area to find out more about the arms situation.
