WFP airlifts buffer stocks to Luena

WFP said that the Angola country office had started airlifting contingency stocks into Luena in the eastern province of Moxico to avert a possible food shortage if the airport is temporary closed during the rainy season. “There is a high probability that the runway of the airport will further deteriorate in the up coming rainy season, which might lead to its temporary closure. Luena airport remains the only route through which WFP can get food into Moxico province, and its condition has continued to degenerate,” WFP said in its latest update. WFP said the Angolan food aid pipeline still remained weak, with confirmed contributions amounting to 50 percent of the total operational requirements.
