Army seeks more funding

The Ugandan army is seeking more funding to improve its performance, a senior army official told parliament on Tuesday. “We are in a dilemma,” the army chief of logistics Colonel Fred Bogere said, according to the ‘New Vision’. “The situation is quite alarming. Until the ministry of finance approves our budget as we present it, our performance will remain minimal.” The army officer said that out of the budgeted 400 billion shillings [US $ 250 million United States dollars], only 191 billion shillings has been approved. Apart from fighting a domestic insurgency in the north and the west, Uganda sent over 10,000 troops to fight alongside rebel groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
