Cholera reported in South Kivu

Outbreaks of cholera have been reported in parts of South Kivu. Humanitarian sources said there were over 150 cases in Cifuma and Mudaka, just north of Bukavu, and 500 in Moba, near Uvira. There has also been an outbreak of measles in Moba, with the some of the affected children suffering from malnutrition. The sources stressed that NGOs should focus on the provision of clean drinking water, as well as medicines. A team of vaccinators from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), who went missing in the Baraka area several weeks ago, have turned up safe and sound, humanitarian sources said. The cattle vaccinators were holed up in Baraka due to fighting between Mayi-Mayi and Burundian rebel FDD troops against RCD-Goma forces.
