UNICEF barge attacked

On Friday, a UNICEF barge was shot at some 40 km from Malakal in Upper Nile province, and one local agency employee was evacuated after being injured in the hip. Humanitarian sources said the incident was being investigated because the shooting “could have been done by rebels or government-allied militia”. The government on Saturday issued a statement about the shooting which condemned the SPLA and “its repeated aggressions on UN employees and humanitarian workers, as well as its continuous violations of the declared ceasefire”.
