Tobacco season delays

    NAIROBI
    Meanwhile, the CFU has warned that planting for the 2001 tobacco season will be delayed by the farm occupations and resultant protest action by farmers, news reports said. Planting is due to start in five week’s time, but tobacco growers have already forecast a 30 percent drop in output from this season’s production of 200 million mt. The CFU said the output fall could be even larger if unrest continues on the farms.
