Yerodia arrest warrant applies in France

The French authorities have informed the DRC that they would respect a Belgian warrant for the arrest of Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Yerodia if he were to travel to the country, diplomatic sources said. The French government informed the Congolese embassy in Paris it would be “obliged” to respect the international warrant issued by Belgium for Yerodia’s arrest on charges of inciting ethnic hatred against Tutsis in August 1998. Yerodia is reported to be interested in travelling to Paris with regard to the possible convening of an international conference on the Great Lakes region.
