Premier stresses commitment to regional peace

Tanzanian Prime minister Fredrick Sumaye on Thursday said his country would continue to be involved in efforts for peace in the Great Lakes region and would like to “maintain a neutral stance” towards countries that have deployed troops in DRC. According to the Tanzanian ‘Guardian’ daily, he was responding to a Tanzanian opposition politician who alleged “Uganda and Rwanda were looting minerals in the Democratic Republic of Congo on the pretext of defending their security interests”. “This is not Tanzania’s position,” Sumaye told parliament. “Such sensitive statements could threaten Tanzania’s relationship with her neighbours.”
